Filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4-6 strips bacon, cooked and chopped
- 3-5 jalapenos, seeded and diced
- 2 green onions, finely sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Assembly
- Wonton wrappers (around 22)
For Frying
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, diced jalapenos, sliced green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Assemble the egg rolls: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean flat surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of the wrapper.
- Fold and seal the wrappers: Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with a little water to help seal. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly like a burrito. Press the edges firmly to seal completely.
- Repeat assembly: Continue the process with the remaining wrappers and filling until all are used.
- Heat the oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the egg rolls for even cooking.
- Fry the egg rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches, turning occasionally, for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Drain and serve: Remove the egg rolls using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or sweet chili sauce.
Notes
- Be sure to remove seeds from jalapenos to control the spiciness level.
- Don’t overfill the wonton wrappers to prevent them from bursting during frying.
- Use a thermometer to maintain the oil temperature around 350°F for best frying results.
- Can be made ahead and fried just before serving for convenience.
- Substitute bacon with vegetarian alternatives for a meat-free version.
