Ingredients
Scale
Pork Chops
- 4 pork chops
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup butter (for searing)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Cheesy Potato Bake
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the potato dish and completing the pork chops.
- Season Pork Chops: Season both sides of the pork chops generously with salt and pepper to enhance their flavor.
- Melt Butter & Sauté Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of butter and add the minced garlic. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Sear Pork Chops: Place the seasoned pork chops in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until nicely browned. Remove from skillet and set aside to rest.
- Prepare Herb Butter Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 cup of butter with thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
- Layer Potatoes: Grease a baking dish and layer the thinly sliced potatoes evenly inside.
- Add Herb Butter: Pour the butter and herb mixture over the potatoes, ensuring even coverage for flavor distribution.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to soften the potatoes.
- Add Cheese and Cream: Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese evenly over the potatoes, and pour the heavy cream on top to create a creamy, cheesy layer.
- Arrange Pork Chops: Place the seared pork chops on top of the cheesy potato bake, nestling them slightly.
- Bake Uncovered: Bake uncovered for an additional 25-30 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the pork chops are fully cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve the garlic butter pork chops with cheesy potato bake hot for a delicious and satisfying meal.
Notes
- To ensure even cooking, slice the potatoes as thin as possible.
- Let the pork chops rest a few minutes after searing to keep them juicy before baking.
- You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version, though the bake will be less creamy.
- Fresh herbs can be used instead of dried thyme and rosemary for enhanced flavor.
- Covering the potato bake during the first part of baking helps steam potatoes to softness before adding cheese.
