Description
This Crispy Air Fryer Baked Potato recipe delivers perfectly fluffy interiors encased in deliciously crispy skins. Using an air fryer allows for evenly cooked potatoes with minimal oil and a quicker cooking time compared to traditional methods, making it an ideal side dish or snack that’s effortless and full of flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 4 medium russet potatoes (6-8 oz each), scrubbed and dried
Seasoning and Oil
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for crispy skin)
- 1 tbsp coarse sea salt (enhances flavor)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper (to taste)
Optional for Serving
- Butter
- Sour cream
- Chives (garnish)
Instructions
- Wash Potatoes: Start by thoroughly washing the potatoes under cold running water. Use a vegetable brush to scrub away any dirt, then pat them dry with a kitchen towel to ensure the skins get crispy.
- Pierce Potatoes: Using a fork, pierce each potato deeply 8–10 times to allow steam to escape during cooking and prevent bursting.
- Oil and Season: Rub 2 tablespoons of olive oil evenly over each potato’s skin, then sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper evenly to add flavor and help with crispiness.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and optimal crispiness.
- Arrange Potatoes: Carefully place the potatoes in the air fryer basket without touching each other to allow hot air circulation.
- Cook Potatoes: Air fry the potatoes at 400°F for 35 minutes, flipping them halfway through to cook evenly and develop a uniform crispy skin.
- Check and Rest: When the potatoes have golden brown and crispy skin and yield slightly when gently squeezed, remove them and let them cool briefly for 1 minute.
- Serve: Cut a deep X across the top of each potato, fluff the insides with a fork to create a pocket, then serve with optional butter, sour cream, and garnish with chives as desired.
Notes
- Make sure potatoes are thoroughly dried before oiling to ensure maximum crispiness.
- Piercing the potatoes before cooking prevents steam build-up and bursting inside the air fryer.
- For extra flavor, you can sprinkle additional herbs or spices on the potatoes before cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; space between potatoes allows proper air circulation for even cooking.
- Letting potatoes rest briefly after cooking helps moisture redistribute inside, resulting in fluffier texture.
