Description

Indulge in these festive Christmas Hazelnut Chocolate Squares, perfect for adding a touch of holiday magic to your dessert table. Rich dark chocolate and crunchy hazelnuts come together in a moist, buttery square that’s easy to bake and delightful to share.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Mixture

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 100g sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 50g all-purpose flour
  • 150g hazelnuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Melt Chocolate and Butter: Place dark chocolate and unsalted butter in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, stirring occasionally until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Add Sugar: Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the sugar until well combined and slightly cooled.
  3. Incorporate Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a smooth mixture.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: Gently fold in the flour, chopped hazelnuts, and vanilla extract until the batter is evenly combined.
  5. Prepare Baking Dish: Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour the batter into it, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the baked squares to cool completely in the dish before cutting into 16 squares and serving.

Notes

  • Use good quality dark chocolate (at least 60-70% cocoa) for the richest flavor.
  • Chopping hazelnuts roughly adds texture; you can toast them slightly for extra nuttiness.
  • Ensure eggs are added one at a time to prevent curdling.
  • For easier cutting, chill the squares in the refrigerator before slicing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
