Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer inspired by the classic Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich. It combines sautéed onions, green bell peppers, and thinly sliced beef with a rich blend of cream cheese, sour cream, and provolone cheese, baked until bubbly and golden. Perfect for game days, parties, or any gathering where a tasty, warm dip is a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Protein & Dairy

  • ½ pound thinly sliced beef (such as ribeye or roast beef, chopped)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese, divided

Other Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Chopped parsley, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and diced green bell pepper. Cook for about 4–5 minutes until the vegetables soften. Then add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, releasing the fragrant aromas.
  3. Cook the Beef: Add the chopped thinly sliced beef to the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes until it is warmed through. Remove the skillet from heat to stop further cooking.
  4. Mix the Dip Base: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese. Mix well to create a creamy base.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Fold the cooked beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic mixture into the cream cheese base. Season with salt and black pepper to taste for balanced flavor.
  6. Bake the Dip: Transfer the entire mixture into a greased baking dish or oven-safe skillet. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese evenly on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly with melted cheese on top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm with toasted baguette slices, pita chips, or crackers for dipping.

Notes

  • For convenience, substitute the fresh thinly sliced beef with deli-sliced roast beef for a quicker prep.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms along with the onions and bell peppers for extra depth and flavor.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the dip at its warm, melty best.
  • Can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving to save time.
