Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box white or yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
- 1 package orange Jello (3 oz)
- 4 large eggs
- ¾ cup vegetable oil
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup orange juice
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent the cake from sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry cake mix and the powdered orange Jello thoroughly to distribute the citrus flavor evenly.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, vegetable oil, water, and orange juice to the dry ingredients. Use an electric mixer on medium speed and mix for 2-3 minutes until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Prepare the Glaze: While the cake bakes, whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest in a small bowl until the glaze is smooth and well combined.
- Cool and Poke Holes: After removing the cake from the oven, allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the top so the glaze can soak in.
- Apply Glaze: Drizzle the prepared orange glaze evenly over the warm cake, allowing it to seep into the holes for maximum flavor.
- Final Cooling and Serve: Let the cake cool completely before slicing and serving to allow the glaze to set and the flavors to meld.
Notes
- Ensure the cake is still warm when applying the glaze so it absorbs better.
- You can use fresh orange juice for a more natural flavor in both the cake and glaze.
- For an extra touch, garnish the cake with orange slices or zest before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
