Description

Delicious and easy Muffin Tuna Melts featuring toasted English muffins topped with a flavorful tuna salad and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner, these tuna melts combine creamy, tangy, and savory flavors with a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tuna Salad

  • 1 can (5 ounces) tuna packed in water, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion

For the Muffins

  • 2 English muffins, split and toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened (for spreading on muffins)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the tuna mixture. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, diced celery, and diced red onion. Mix these ingredients thoroughly until they are evenly blended.
  3. Butter the muffins. Spread the softened butter evenly on the toasted sides of the English muffin halves. This adds flavor and helps create a golden crust when baked.
  4. Assemble the tuna melts. Place the muffin halves on the parchment-lined baking sheet, buttered side down. Spoon the prepared tuna mixture evenly on top of each muffin half. Then, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each to cover the tuna mixture.
  5. Bake the melts. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted completely and is bubbly.
  6. Serve warm. Remove the tuna melts from the oven and serve immediately while warm and melty for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For an extra kick of flavor, add a few dashes of hot sauce or a sprinkle of paprika to the tuna mixture before assembling.
  • Swiss or provolone cheese can be used as substitutes for cheddar to vary the flavor profile.
  • These tuna melts can be assembled ahead of time and baked just before serving to save preparation time during meals.
