Description

These Mini Apple Pies are delightful individual-sized desserts perfect for fall. Made with tender, flaky pie crust and a spiced apple filling, they bake to golden perfection with a buttery, bubbly center. Easy to prepare and perfect for serving warm or at room temperature, these pies make a charming treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade)

Apple Filling

  • 3 medium apples (peeled, cored, and finely diced)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 tablespoon butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 12-cup muffin tin to prevent sticking.
  2. Shape the Crust: Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface and use a round cutter or glass approximately 4 inches in diameter to cut out 12 circles. Gently press each circle into the bottom and sides of the muffin cups, forming mini pie shells.
  3. Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly to evenly coat the apples with the mixture.
  4. Fill the Pies: Spoon the apple filling evenly into each prepared crust-lined muffin cup. Place a few small pieces of butter on top of each filling portion.
  5. Add Crust Tops: Use leftover pie dough to cut small shapes or strips to decorate the tops of each mini pie. Arrange them on top of the filling.
  6. Egg Wash and Sugar: Brush the tops of each mini pie with the beaten egg to promote browning. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top if desired for a crunchy finish.
  7. Bake: Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the crusts turn golden brown and the filling becomes bubbly.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the mini pies to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before carefully removing them. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Using tart apples like Granny Smith provides the best flavor balance.
  • These mini pies freeze well; wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil, then reheat before serving.
