Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Coating
- 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
Noodles
- 8 oz noodles (lo mein, spaghetti, or rice noodles)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Sauce
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Toppings
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook Noodles: Cook the noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles well and toss them with sesame oil to prevent sticking. Set aside while preparing the beef and sauce.
- Prepare Beef: In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until fully coated. This coating will help create a crispy texture when fried.
- Fry Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, fry the beef slices for 2–3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the cooked beef to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Make Sauce: Lower the heat to medium and, in the same skillet, add soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine and let simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens and becomes glossy.
- Toss Beef in Sauce: Return the crispy beef to the skillet and toss well to coat every piece evenly with the sauce.
- Combine with Noodles: Add the cooked noodles to the pan and toss everything together thoroughly to ensure the noodles and beef are well mixed and heated through.
- Serve: Serve the honey soy crispy beef and noodles immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for garnish and extra flavor.
Notes
- For extra crunch, consider double-frying the beef by frying it twice in quick succession batches.
- Add stir-fried vegetables such as bell peppers or broccoli to make the meal more balanced and nutritious.
- This recipe can be easily adapted by substituting beef with chicken or tofu for variation.
