Ingredients
Scale
Sauce & Marinade
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and tails removed if desired
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups chopped broccoli
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, low sodium soy sauce, fresh grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes until well combined to create a flavorful sauce base.
- Marinate the shrimp. Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a bowl, add one-third of the sauce mixture, and toss to coat evenly. Let the shrimp marinate for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Thicken the sauce. Whisk the cornstarch into the remaining two-thirds of the sauce mixture until no lumps remain, then set aside for later use.
- Cook the broccoli. Heat a skillet or wok over high heat, add olive oil, then the chopped broccoli. Season with salt and pepper and stir-fry for 5-6 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still crisp. Remove the broccoli from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the shrimp. In the same skillet, add butter and then the marinated shrimp (discarding the used marinade). Cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes per side until they turn pink and are cooked through.
- Combine and simmer. Pour the reserved sauce with cornstarch into the skillet with the shrimp, bring it to a low-medium simmer, and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp well.
- Add broccoli and serve. Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet, toss to combine with the shrimp and sauce, and heat through. Serve immediately over rice or pasta for a complete meal.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds before serving.
- If you prefer spicier food, increase the red pepper flakes to taste.
- Make sure not to overcook the shrimp to keep them tender and juicy.
- The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dish pairs well with steamed jasmine rice, brown rice, or noodles.
