Description

These Homemade BBQ Chip Chicken Nuggets are a crispy, flavorful twist on classic chicken nuggets, coated in crushed BBQ-flavored potato chips and baked to perfection. Perfect as an appetizer or a fun main dish, they pair wonderfully with Chick-Fil-A sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) chicken breast, cut into 1.5-inch pieces
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) BBQ seasoning (e.g., Jack Daniel’s Pork Rub)

Coating

  • 2 (7.75 oz) bags regular BBQ chips

Serving

  • Chick-Fil-A sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the BBQ Chip Coating: Place the BBQ chips in a blender or food processor and pulse until the chips break down into breadcrumb-sized pieces similar to panko. Transfer the crushed chips into a shallow bowl for coating.
  3. Season the Chicken: In a medium bowl, add the chicken breast pieces along with the BBQ sauce and BBQ seasoning. Stir thoroughly to ensure each piece is evenly coated with the sauce and seasoning.
  4. Coat the Chicken: Take each seasoned chicken piece and roll it in the crushed BBQ chips, pressing gently so the coating adheres well. Arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-16 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F/74°C) and the chip coating is golden and crispy.
  6. Serve: Remove the chicken nuggets from the oven and serve warm with Chick-Fil-A sauce or your preferred dipping sauce for a delicious and flavorful bite.

Notes

  • The crushed BBQ chips create a unique crunchy coating that’s different from traditional breadcrumbs.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the nuggets for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • Make sure the chicken pieces are uniform in size to ensure even cooking.
  • Use any BBQ sauce and seasoning blend you prefer to customize the flavor profile.
  • These nuggets can be reheated in a toaster oven or conventional oven to maintain crispiness.
