Ingredients
Scale
Pinwheels
- 1 (8 oz) can crescent roll dough
- 1/2 pound (225g) thinly sliced roast beef
- 1 cup (100g) shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Au Jus
- 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface and press the seams together firmly to create a single rectangular sheet of dough.
- Assemble Filling: Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the entire dough surface. Layer the thinly sliced roast beef across the dough, then sprinkle the shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
- Roll and Slice: Starting from one of the long edges, roll the dough tightly into a log. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder and dried rosemary, if using, for extra flavor.
- Bake Pinwheels: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Make Au Jus: While the pinwheels are baking, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Serve: Serve the warm pinwheels alongside the au jus dipping sauce for a savory and satisfying appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Make sure the crescent dough seams are well pressed to keep the filling inside during baking.
- Use thinly sliced roast beef for easy rolling and better texture.
- For a more intense flavor, you can add caramelized onions or horseradish spread inside the pinwheels.
- Leftover pinwheels can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven for best texture.
- The au jus can be adjusted with beef bouillon for richer taste if desired.
