Description

Delight in these soft, fluffy Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls, a perfect blend of rich cocoa, warm cinnamon, and sweet chocolate chips wrapped in a tender dough. Ideal for breakfast or dessert, these rolls combine classic cinnamon roll flavors with a chocolate twist, topped with a smooth vanilla glaze for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Filling

  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make Dough: Add granulated sugar, softened butter, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture and mix well. Gradually add flour one cup at a time, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6–8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
  6. Shape Rolls: Roll dough out on a floured surface into a 16×12-inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle evenly with cocoa-cinnamon mixture and chocolate chips. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll up the dough and slice into 12 even rolls.
  7. Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake Rolls: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Make Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Glaze Rolls: Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, use dark chocolate chips or add a pinch of espresso powder to the filling.
  • Rolls can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning for convenience.
  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
  • Be careful not to overbake the rolls to keep them soft and moist.
