Description

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Twists are a delightful and easy-to-make puff pastry dessert that combines the warm, gooey charm of chocolate chip cookie dough with the flaky texture of puff pastry. Perfect as a sweet snack or dessert, these twists are beautifully golden, buttery, and generously filled with mini chocolate chips, brown sugar, and cinnamon for a touch of warmth. Drizzle with a simple powdered sugar glaze for an extra sweet finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Optional Drizzle

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon if using. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and unroll or roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle shape to create an even surface for the filling.
  4. Assemble the twists: Spread the butter-sugar mixture evenly over half of the puff pastry. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips evenly over the butter-sugar mixture.
  5. Fold and cut: Carefully fold the pastry in half over the filling to cover it completely, then gently press the edges to seal the filling inside.
  6. Form twists: Cut the folded pastry into 8–10 strips. Twist each strip a few times to create the signature shape, and place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Apply egg wash: Brush each twist with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden finish as they bake.
  8. Bake: Place the twists in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes or until the twists are puffed up and golden brown.
  9. Cool and drizzle (optional): Allow the twists to cool slightly on a wire rack. If desired, mix powdered sugar with 1 to 2 teaspoons of milk to create a quick glaze, and drizzle it over the twists before serving.

Notes

  • Serve these twists warm for the best gooey chocolate-chip experience.
  • They are best eaten the day they’re made but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to refresh their crispiness.
  • Optional cinnamon adds a nice warm flavor but can be omitted for a classic chocolate chip twist.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate chips or add chopped nuts for variety.
