Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
Optional Drizzle
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 teaspoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon if using. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
- Roll out the puff pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and unroll or roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle shape to create an even surface for the filling.
- Assemble the twists: Spread the butter-sugar mixture evenly over half of the puff pastry. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips evenly over the butter-sugar mixture.
- Fold and cut: Carefully fold the pastry in half over the filling to cover it completely, then gently press the edges to seal the filling inside.
- Form twists: Cut the folded pastry into 8–10 strips. Twist each strip a few times to create the signature shape, and place them spaced apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Apply egg wash: Brush each twist with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden finish as they bake.
- Bake: Place the twists in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes or until the twists are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and drizzle (optional): Allow the twists to cool slightly on a wire rack. If desired, mix powdered sugar with 1 to 2 teaspoons of milk to create a quick glaze, and drizzle it over the twists before serving.
Notes
- Serve these twists warm for the best gooey chocolate-chip experience.
- They are best eaten the day they’re made but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to refresh their crispiness.
- Optional cinnamon adds a nice warm flavor but can be omitted for a classic chocolate chip twist.
- Experiment with different types of chocolate chips or add chopped nuts for variety.
