Description

This Blackberry Basil Balsamic Brie with Sweetened Pecans is a sophisticated and easy-to-make appetizer combining warm, gooey Brie cheese with a vibrant blackberry and basil topping and crunchy sweetened pecans. It’s perfect for entertaining and serving with crackers or crostini for a delightful mix of creamy, fruity, and nutty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Brie and Topping

  • 1 (8 oz) wheel of Brie cheese
  • ½ cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (or reduced balsamic vinegar)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • ¼ cup sweetened pecans, roughly chopped

To Serve

  • Optional: crackers, crostini, or sliced baguette

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare Brie: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the Brie wheel on a parchment-lined baking sheet or in a small baking dish, ready for baking.
  2. Bake the Brie: Bake the Brie for 10–12 minutes until it is warm and slightly gooey in the center without fully melting, creating a luscious texture.
  3. Prepare the blackberry mixture: While the Brie bakes, gently mash half of the blackberries in a small bowl. Stir in the balsamic glaze, honey, and chopped fresh basil. Then add the remaining whole blackberries and mix gently to combine.
  4. Assemble the dish: Remove the Brie from the oven and transfer it carefully to a serving platter. Spoon the prepared blackberry mixture over the warm Brie, then sprinkle the chopped sweetened pecans on top for a crunchy finish.
  5. Serve: Serve immediately with your choice of crackers, crostini, or sliced baguette to complement the creamy and fruity flavors.

Notes

  • To make your own sweetened pecans: toss pecans with 1 tablespoon maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon, then toast in a skillet for 2–3 minutes until caramelized.
  • This appetizer is best served warm right after baking to enjoy the perfect melted Brie texture and fresh topping.
